ODYSSEA, first Bethnic Monitoring System ever to be deployed on an oil & gas platform
Proud of our collaboration with the Democritus University of Thrace!
On Monday morning, July 13th 2020, Energean in collaboration with the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) successfully installed the ODYSSEA Platform, an innovating monitoring marine data system for deep waters, on its natural gas-production platform “Kappa” in Prinos, South Kavala, Greece.
Oceanographic data will be monitored by the specific marine station, something that constitutes the first such installation in the world at an oil & gas platform. The marine station will support the accuracy of the marine simulations and forecasts produced by DUTH under the ODYSSEA Project and will provide useful information and support to the local fishermen and other professionals active in the open sea and the coastal zone.
At the same time, the data will be transferred to the Copernicus Marine System, in support of European and International efforts to systematically monitor and observe our planet.
Our collaboration with DUTH serves United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals n.14, Life Below Water, and no.17, Partnership to achieve the Goal.
