Energean is looking for an experienced Tax Controller to join its finance team in Athens. An exciting opportunity for an experienced tax professional to manage the local tax function in Greece in accordance with the local tax legislation and Group policies and procedures. Managing the tax compliance process for the Greek entities of the Group on a timely and efficient manner, overviewing the tax governance, ensuring constant updating on changes in fiscal regulations and managing the relationship with local tax authorities are some of the key responsibilities of the role. The role will be reporting to the Group Tax Controller. 


Key Accountabilities:


  • Implement the tax strategy and the policies of the Group
  • Manage the overall tax responsibilities, including corporate taxation, withholding taxes, VAT and other indirect taxes, to ensure compliance and efficiency
  • Overview of the intercompany transactions and assist with the preparation of the local transfer pricing files
  • Prepare the corporate income tax returns in accordance with the general Corporate Income Tax legislation with some specific additional provisions that apply to the oil and gas sector
  • Prepare the tax workings (deferred tax & tax expense notes) for the interim and year-end financial statements
  • Interact with external compliance service provider to ensure all information, processes and procedures are properly provided and implemented to ensure deadlines are met in a timely and efficient manner
  • Stay on top of the developments in tax regulation in a national/international level impacting on the area of responsibility and suggest improvements to existing structures depending on the above
  • Ensure appropriate tax advice has been obtained when required
  • Manage the relationship with the tax authorities and third-party providers such as tax advisors, auditors, layers, as appropriate
  • Support with the tax audits and tax litigations
  • Review and optimise the tax documentation, including contracts with related and/or third parties
  • Assist with identifying and addressing any tax issues/risk areas in compliance with Tax Risk Management requirements



  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting/Finance/ Business Administration or related field
  • Tax related qualifications or ACCA or equivalent will be considered as an asset
  • An overall experience of 7+ years in tax roles in tax advisory firms and/or in-house teams of large Greek or multinational companies
  • Experience with oil & gas or other energy companies will be considered as an asset
  • Very good knowledge of the Greek tax system
  • Fluent in Greek and English, both verbal and written
  • Good communication skills at all levels
